About Bishop Powell

Bishop David G. Powell, born the tenth of eleven children to Willie Lee and Ella Mae Powell. Raised in Montgomery, Alabama and attended Chisholm Elementary, Goodwyn Jr. High and Robert E. Lee High School. While in high school, Bishop Powell had a desire to go to church. In 1979, he began to attend Rice Temple where Elder (Bishop) Franklin McNeil was pastor.  Bishop Powell was convinced that Holiness was right and he received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. He joined and became a faithful member, and served in many areas of the church as youth department president, deacon, usher, and a licensed minister. After completing a year at Alabama State University, he joined the United States Army and became a certified Bio-Medical Technician. After leaving the military active duty status he returned to Rice Temple and felt the leading of the Lord to start a mission; Harvest Apostolic Outreach at the Carter Hill Road YMCA.

After a year as a mission at the YMCA, he moved the mission to his front yard. After thirty days souls were saved and baptized. Thus, the church, Greater Harvest Apostolic Church was established at 3707 Mobile Highway. The church grew and many souls were added to the church. In November 2007 the church purchased the property on Creative Street. Under the leadership of our founder and pastor the church has grown to meet the needs both naturally and spiritually of the church as well as the community at large. He was ordained Bishop in June 2018. Bishop Powell is the proud father of three daughters, one son, and two beautiful granddaughters.
